Jack Holden, On Playing Hector Dalrymple, and LJG Spin Off

I’ve honestly wanted to interview Jack since he was first cast, back in 2016, as Hector Dalrymple, during Season 3 filming. I did a piece on him then, OutlanderBTS Casting News: More on Jack Holden, playing Hector… Lord John Grey’s First Love, and after doing research for that article, I remember thinking, “What a talented guy.”

The fact that Jack’s work on Outlander ended up on the cutting room floor, coupled with the likelihood of a Lord John Grey spin off, makes him even more interesting, (for me). Every once in a while, I revisit the ever growing cast list, and a handful of people stand out as ones I’d like to interview; on my latest peruse, Jack was still on my list. I reached out, and luckily we connected and got it done. I find him to be delightful, and I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of him over time. He has a penchant for one man shows, (he’s done two now), his latest, Cruise, which he wrote, produced and stars in, will be playing at the Duchess Theater in the West End of London, from May 18th to June 13th; rehearsals started on Monday, April 26th. You’ll find out more about the compelling story of Cruise in the interview. If I were in the UK, I’d be going!

Jack tells me about his casting story, his experience on Outlander, his scene being cut, what he’s up to now, and more. We talk about the spin off – will Jack come back as Hector for the spin off? (Will Sam Hoare come back as Hal?) These questions and many more, remain.

Without further ado, please enjoy my conversation with the lovely, intelligent, and talented, Jack Holden…

  1. Hi Courtney,
Enjoyed your interview with Jack Holden and hearing about his Outlander experience. Interesting young man…. you do come across very at ease and relaxed while interviewing … a great trait for an interviewer!

Should love to hear your conversation with The Dipp, but here in the UK it would be 1 to 2am in the morning 🙃 …. Would it be available to watch on YouTube for instance?

Courtney, thank you for asking me for me opinions on the interviews Sam had done during this last year. I was so chuffed to be asked! AND I have watched a few of them 😉🤩😅

    • Susie the Dipp convo is up on the homepage now. 🤗 Thank you for weighing in on the Sam interviews! I like the one I posted – I will do the others as time goes on. Sam does so many interviews. Perhaps I should reach out about a new one. 🤔

  2. Hi Courtney, thank you for your reply about The Dipp interview and that we can watch it after the event! Great news!
As far as a question for you, more a thought! …. Season 6 and onwards.
Outlander came into my world in September 2019 via the tv show. Not knowing anything about the story I presumed everything about how the show portrayed the story was how it should be! Now having read all the books so far and loving them….. I’m now thinking about how the show deviates from the story!
Also with knowing that the show can not always follow the book stories to the letter….. we totally understand this.
But keeping to the main story of Jamie and Claire is so important. They are
Outlander. Hoping they won’t have less J&C because of all the many other characters/stories within Outlander.
Plus to get this far and not have William in the show is unthinkable! 🙃 If they are now combining books in a series…. would William be in series 7 rather than 6? Would so love to see the scene of William and Bree talking on the street with Jamie an LJG watching from an upper window…and Jamie’s face. Sam could so do it!
    Sx
    Sorry for the waffling….

  3. Just got around to listening to your interview with Jack Holden. A very interesting young man for sure with a great acting career ahead of him. It is really too bad they cut his scene, but maybe he can be hired to do other roles in the upcoming seasons! He is very articulate and intelligent and I look forward to seeing big things for him in the future.
Thanks Courtney for the great interview and finding this gem of a young man!
