Last night, when Starz dropped the World Outlander Day video at 10:00PM the day before WOD, I thought, “hmmm, this is likely an appetizer, something is coming tomorrow…” Well, here it is! Happy World Outlander Day, and with this announcement, we can all look forward to the premiere of Season 6 in early 2022.
According to Sam, it will be out in February of 2022…
And, there’s more – according to EW,
“The sixth season, which wraps production in Scotland this week, will consists of eight episodes, including a 90-minute season premiere.”
From Matt Roberts:
“We are excited to get into the editing room to work on bringing the fans one step closer to reuniting with the family back on Fraser’s Ridge,” said showrunner Matthew B. Roberts in a statement. “Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible. Dinna fash, we will then film an extended season 7 with 16 episodes next year as life returns to normalcy.”
Woo hoo!
This photo makes me think we will get the Henry Christian storyline – could this be Roger saving Wee Henry Christian from the boys’ prank? I hardly think he would have that look on his face for a baptism!! 🙂
From ABootlanders on Twitter – a reminder of the scene –
There are scenes…and then there are SCENES. This is one that made me cheer Roger on in the books and getting this snippet on #WorldOutlanderDay was a #RogerMac gift that keeps giving. #Outlander #RichardRankin pic.twitter.com/ZJiz2bSZEX

Early 2022 is when I expected Season 6 to be released – even with a full 12 episodes. Post production takes 2 months per episode, so they could conceivably have Season 6 ready to premiere by August, 2021. My guess is they have to keep their general spot in the Starz line-up (vs deliver it sooner). This could also have to do with press tours and the actors’ other schedules – or waiting for a more optimal window Covid- wise? They could also all just be exhausted! Whatever the case, this is great news.
Annnnnd that’s a wrap!!!! …. what a season! A huge thank you to our amazing crew who worked so hard this season through really tough circumstances and also to our amazing fans who’ve stuck with us #WorldOutlanderDay we ❤️u all ❤️❤️❤️ https://t.co/avl6nwbWyf

Be sure and check out my latest interview, with Jack Holden (who played Lord John Grey’s love, Hector Dalrymple, in Season 3, and may or may not come back for the LJG Spin off). And go see his play if you’re in London! It’s getting rave reviews and only running for one month – more details in the interview.
Also, check out my recent convo with Caitlin from The Dipp – we had fun speculating about storylines in Seasons 6 and 7, and lots more.

Great big smile here! I hope “early 2022” means January! That will cheer me up in those cold, winter nights! Wooot!
I just added a bit from Sam – not sure if it was a leak – it looks like it’ll be February.
Starz seems to like Valentine’s Day.
Definitely at Woo Hoo moment!
This is wonderful news! Thank you for sharing it – it made my day!
